In 1955, George Nelson designed the Coconut Chair, a piece of furniture that he compared to an eighth of a coconut. Nelson, a leading representative of mid-twentieth-century American modernism, gave it the iconic look of a coconut turned inside out. The plastic shell on the outside is white, while the comfortable seat shell is covered with high-quality leather or textile, available in various colors.
